HP Printer is offline. How do I troubleshoot it?

Clear the network cache

 

  • Select Start, then click the Control panel.

  • Double-click Network connections, right-click the connection type you use to connect to your network (for example, Local Area Connection or Wireless Network Connection), and select Properties.

  • Click Internet Protocol TCP/IP (if using a dial-up or VPN connection, select Internet Protocol TCP/IPv6), and then click Properties again.

  • Select the Cache box, and then click OK. If you have more than one network connection installed, repeat this step for each connection.

 

After trying this, wait for 30 minutes and try to print again. Also, unplug your printer for about 1 minute, then plug it back in.



If a message is displayed on your computer that indicates that your printer is offline, you should check your printer's network connection. (Check to make sure it is connected and functioning correctly.) 



Check the power connection


  • Shut down the printer by pressing and holding the Power button (make sure nothing prints before you do this).

  • Unplug the power cord from both electrical outlets and wait 30 seconds.

  • Unplug the power cord from your printer.

  • Sometimes, the printer might be turned off due to a paper jam or because it has run out of power. If this is the case, plug your printer back in and watch for any messages on the screen that indicate that it is available to print. Please note: some HP printers will show you how much ink is left before you turn off your computer, so please watch for ink levels as well.

  • If you are still having problems after trying these steps, try doing a restart on your computer by unplugging from the wall outlet for about 30 seconds and plugging back in again.



Update the drivers and firmware 


It is essential to keep the printer driver and firmware up to date for its smooth and effective functioning, else it may show you the HP printer offline error. To update the printer driver and firmware you can visit the HP official website and install it from there. 

 

  • Go to the Driver Support section.

  • Enter your printer model number details.

  •  Click on the option to update the driver and firmware.

  • Proceed with the on-screen guidelines and complete the installation process.
