Three mono printer models are affected by the firmware update. They are listed below. 

 

  • HP LaserJet Pro M15a/M15w/M28w/M29w

  • HP LaserJet Enterprise M506 series (CF287A/X)

  • HP LaserJet Pro MFP M426 and M402 series (CF226QA/X)

 

  1. Color printers 


There are four color printers that are affected by the recent update. They include these:

 

  • HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M280 and M281. The Pro M254 is also affected.

  • HP LaserJet Enterprise M553, M552, and MFP M577 series.

  • HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M377, M452, and MFP M477 series.

  • HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M277 series, M252 series, and M274.

 

Fixes for Aftermarket Cartridges Supply Problem


You can troubleshoot this problem by confirming that the cartridge policy is off and find the firmware update code. Here are comprehensive instructions you can follow.

 

  1. Verify that the cartridge policy is turned off


HP Mono or Color printers have a cartridge policy. If it is on, your printing device won’t accept aftermarket cartridges. So, you must turn off this setting. There are two methods to turn it off.

 

  1. Go to the home screen and then to ‘System Setup.’ From here, navigate to ‘Supply Setting’ followed by ‘Cartridge Policy.’ Now turn it off.

  2. Alternatively, you can head over to ‘Control Panel’ and choose ‘Manage Supplies.’ Choose ‘Go’ to come to the setup page. From here, choose ‘Cartridge Policy’ and turn it off.

 

2. Locate the update code of the firmware


The next step is to locate the firmware update code. For it, click ‘Firmware Date Code’ on your system setup. Disable the options of ‘Allow Updates’ and ‘Check Automatically’ if your version of firmware isn’t 2020.10.21.

 

If you use a LaserJet HP printer, go to ‘Manage Updates.’ From here, select ‘Check Automatically’ as well as ‘Allow Update’ and select ‘No.’ 

 

3. Use the previous firmware if your firmware date is 2020.10.21. 


It is only for those users whose firmware date is 2020.10.21. Navigate to 123.hp/setup and follow these steps. 

 

  • Choose ‘Support’ followed by ‘Software & Drivers.’

  • Now, tap ‘Printer’ and input the M477 series. 

  • Now, you’ll see July 1, 2020. Tap ‘Download’ to go back to the earlier firmware.
