Reason behind 49 error and ways to fix it!

A 49 error usually takes place when the printer attempts to perform an action that the firmware is not capable of performing or might not be capable of handling it. 123.hp.com/setup helps you to be aware of the various reasons behind error 49.
Error 49 on HP LaserJet printers are communication error codes. These are pretty tricky errors because they can be resolved just by a reboot of you might require a hardware replacement to fix the issue. 123.hp.com/setup provides few tips in order to resolve the issue-

·        It is safe to assume that it is a temporary error at first. You can start off by turning the printer off and then unplugging it from the laptop/desktop. Clear any pending tasks from the print and then reboot the printer to make the 49 error to see if the error had gone or not. Then you can reconnect the network/computer cable and try printing again.

·        A corrupted driver can also cause 49 errors. If the error only occurs while performing particular printing tasks like printing from custom software or only when printing a certain document that is more complex or memory-intensive than average then in those cases, it's possible that a mismatched or corrupted driver has been assigned to the printer.  Faulty drivers can send negative data to the printer which is the main cause of confusion and triggers the 49 error.  Try to download & replace it with a different driver. Finding the right driver can take be a task.  If you're unfamiliar with drivers then feel free to visit 123.hp.com/setup.

·        A faulty Jet Direct network card can also cause a 49 error.  You can test "around" the Jet Direct network card by connecting to the printer via an alternate connection like a USB or parallel port. You can check if the same files print fine when you bypass communicating through the network card.  Replace the Jet Direct card if needed. Many of the latest LaserJet printers don't use Jet Direct cards and just have the network port directly soldered onto the main system board which is called the formatter assembly.  In those cases, you would need to replace the whole of formatter assembly. Visit 123.hp.com/setup for additional details.

·        Another reason could be a failing accessory or failing memory chip installed in the formatter slots.  Some of the accessories include optional hard drives and memory chips, etc.  If you suspect one of these items then you should try removing the accessories or memory chips one at a time and reboot to see if anything improves with a certain accessory or memory chip missing.

·        Lastly, a failing formatter can also be the reason behind the code 49 error.  There are certain models that are notorious for formatter failures and there are other models where formatter basically never fails. To put in simpler terms, the formatter assembly is the circuit board that controls the logic, receives data from the computer, and issues the print commands.  The LaserJet P3005 is a prime example when it comes to a printer with nasty formatter failures. Other popular models that often have formatter failures are the LaserJet P2015, LaserJet M2727, LaserJet M3027, LaserJet M3035. You can check out 123.hp.com/setup for more details.

How to fix Error 49-

Try the following steps to get rid of the error as soon as possible-

Firstly, you need to turn off the printer and then power it on again.

This will probably resolve the problem. If not, continue with the next step.

·        Print an Event Log from you to know how often this error takes place.

·        In case if the Event Log shows a frequency of one time per week then it is ok otherwise it is a matter of concern.

·        In case you see that the error occurs more times in a week then enable ‘Auto-Recovery’

·        Usually this feature is enabled by default and the power cycling process takes place automatically.

To enable the ‘Auto Recovery’ mode:

·        Select the ‘Administration’ option.

·        Now drag the cursor to ‘Management’ followed by ‘Settings’.

·        Click on ‘General’.

·        Tap on the ‘Auto-Recovery’ option.

·        Click on the ‘Enabled’ option and then click ‘Save’.

This should pretty much solve your issue. If it does not then refer to 123.hp.com/setup to get your queries solved.
